The importance of instructions

 

 To Professor Campbell and fellow students

Introduction

Since I can remember, instructions have always been very present in our lives. As little kids our parents will tell us how to eat properly and how to clean up our toys. Now, we get instructions from our employers and professors on certain topics. Instructions are common in our daily lives and it helps prevent or guide us from certain situations that can help us grow and understand the world in a better perspective. Relating back to my major in Engineering design we get instructions on different methods on how to design a certain product. But what's different with instructions for designers is that there can always be another way to do something 

The value of Instructions 

Ever since we were kids instructions is were always important in achieving a task. Instructions in a working environment is key for everyone safety and wellbeing. For example, if you are a doctor and you do the instructions correctly you can save your patient lives such as in surgery or with the correct diagnosis but if instructions and protocols are not followed it can lead to a patient death.

In my major, engineering design we have instructions of literally everything. For example when machining a product we have step to step instructions on what to do first lead to another. If done wrong we would not get the final result the correct way. Also in engineering design we have instructions for designing a certain thing. Like in class last week we designed a gear. Designing this gear had step to step instructions for the correct way to design for the final product.

Failure to Follow

Instructions can be easy and hard to follow. Overall, not everyone can follow the same instructions because of the form instructions are being given. Verbal instructions can be hard to comprehend due to language boundaries, or the environment in which instructions can be hard to listen in leading to many instructions being missed or misheard. Written instructions can also deal with similar conflicts, the form of writing can be misinterpreted if written in a sloppy or uneligible writing.

Also failure of instruction can lead do big results. Some results of not reading or hearing instructions correctly can lead to not being able to complete a task, not being able to finish a task, and not doing a task correctly.  Also not reading instructions in the classroom can lead to a bad grade. 

Last Thoughts

Overall, Following instructions is a important life skill that we should master before getting into the working field. Throughout our lives we have learned the value of instructions as well as the type of ways us as individuals, can understand an uptain them rapidly and clear whether it would be through verbal or written forms.
